I am going to JBoss World Orlando



(That's Gavin pointing North, Emmanuel pointing North too but with a few more vodka tonics and me not really knowing what North is)

After complaining that other conferences didn't invite me formally, my pals over at Red Hat have sent me a nice invitation complete with flowers and decorum.

So I will be heading down to Orlando for the festivities. It is feb 13 through 15. There is a great line-up of talks from JBossians, partners and customers. All the innovation that has been going on since I have been gone will be on display. The grand-mass of JBoss is always a great occasion to get up to speed and meet the community. I will try to sit in the back of the rooms, incognito, and soak the knowledge as I am losing my edge on the pure tech here.

I have been told by the folks at Red Hat that the show is selling great and there is 3 weeks to go. So here is my little plug for the show, go register

But really I am just going there for the party. Ah... the parties... they are always good. I hope I don't get sh*tfaced like in the picture above.

Good to hear that you'll be down there with us. You should go running with me and Bela. Now that you are retired you have no excuse for not training properly. Since you finish marathons with respectable times on minimal training, methinks you might have a bit of talent.

wow stan! You are getting real good at this. These days I ski more than anything and I am getting good at that but even then I watch them knees. Besides running with you and bela? I would have to train just for that event!

What a horrible rumor! The party is NOT cancelled. The JBoss World Party is at Disney's Pleasure Island. After the cocktail party we have busses running from the hotel to Disney's Pleasure Island until 1am. Hi Marc! I am starting to get frustrated at Red Hat's management of JBoss, stagnating features and no real innovation. Can't you DO SOMETHING!! This is why my management cancelled our attendance in Orlando :(((

I agree with Alicia. I was going to fly in to Orlando as well, but there's no point. Nothing new, no new features, no new roadmap, just the same stagnant community and stale release, not even keeping up with the Java spec. Someone needs to tell JBoss management that they are losing customers.

I understand your frustrations about JBoss AS 5 but guys, have you seen what we released last year? How about Seam 2, Hibernate Search, JBoss Developer Studio, Drools and its BRMS, JBoss ESB, JBoss Portal, Hibernate Shards, JBoss Messaging, RichFaces and so on. Not even mentioning the huge effort we are doing on standardization (Web Beans, Java Persistence, Bean Validation etc etc)

Please don't talk about stagnation!

I can't comment on all of the components Emmanuel mentions, but working with Jboss Richfaces/AJAX4JSF is a dream, and a welcomed addition to JEMS.

From an innovation standpoint, those guys crank out quality features in a timely manner!

The latest drama is fun. VW became the largest company in the world, in terms of market cap, ahead of EXXON on a little financial market coup d'etat orchestrated by Porsche. Apparently VW stocks was on the way down, I don't know the details but many Hedge Funds (HF) were short the position. Fine. The price goes down. Porsche starts buying the anonymous float (and probably some private too?), but the point is they build a 73% market share without many people noticing. In the US you would need disclosure after 10% or so. Point is, that many HF wake up and realize that their short position is about to lose a lot of money. So what do they do? those idiots? they short cover all together, which means they buy the stock to cover the short. The stock zooms up, by a full multiplier and overtakes EXXON.
