TF12: Jungle Boogey Nip & Tuck remixes


Following a suggestion by PCLeddy in comments, I have decided to remix Kool and the Gang's classic "Jungle Boogey".

The original is too fuzzy but I found a cover that sounded clean. I decomposed the song in four block (the whole song is an arrangement of those blocks). Scouting for compatibility was a bit of b*tch, even with harmonic matching however I did find 3 that matches greatly and decided to play with this.

The result are 3 mixes a/b/c in TF12


  1. Jungle Boogey + Zookey == Jungle Zookey
    This version is very close to the original. The polydrums supports plays nicely and doesn't impact the melody too much. This is a true "nip and tuck" close to the original.
  2. Jungle Boogey + The Path == A Path through the Jungle Boogey
    The Path is great Detroit classic that is notoriously difficult to mix with everything else including itself. However here blocks of Jungle fit nicely. The resulting track has 2 interesting parts. The beginning with "Feel the funk" from Jungle rapidly evolves as the Path's melody kicks in and modulates the melody from Jungle. Surprising result.
  3. Jungle Boogey + L8 == Acid Jungle Boogey
    L8 is a very acidish track. Even though it is low-key its acid nature overtakes everything and most of the work was on the reconstruction of the structure of Jungle to match L8. This is a new beast, completely different from the original and qualifies as a acid track remix.

I just want to say that I truly appreciate your work. The famed French house touch! I agree with you that melody is missing these days. It is a pleasure to see these old classics remixed. Keep up the series!

thanks for the kudos. I got a bunch of pieces coming up. I like doing this.

The MP3 are high quality and play well on loud speakers. I do have the WAVE originals as Ableton generate waves. They are however to big for me to put up on the website. Send me an FTP site and I will see what I can do.

btw, the tomita album i grew up on is here: http://www.amazon.com/Pictures-At-Exhibition-Tomita/dp/B000PC3NIE. kind of corny, but kids dont know the difference. the only thing to get if the humorour renditions, and the other worldly quality so unique to the 70s

far as the tracks, i was missing the horns in the first, then they showed up, to my great relief. actually, there are two or three cool riffs, one long and the two super short. heh

btw, a fuzzy version, would that have a certain entertaining quality to it?

any interest in taking a really cornhole song from the 70s and mixing it up? like helen reddy or newton john? if i had your powers, i would be laughing all day mixing these up

maybe i should give it a try. what's my up-front investment look like? currently on a mac. could get a nice linux box

also, i have to laugh at those cool bass lines. remind me of all the tough guy cop show intros, whereby our hero spins around, super tough look on his face, or hits the hood of the car after a four feet fall during a foot chase. that should get them dancing ;)

lol, cool and the gang (per wikipedia) are from the very city in which i sit, jersey city. tonight, i am going to seek out their tired, sad retired asses in some small secret club, and hear them play live. ok, making that up

also, per usual, i dont know what the f i am talking about and dont really care but: pulp fiction featured jf, so need to revive it. not to mention on top 100 funk songs of all time. but, still, this is unique, no?

btw, do you have a copy of the porno version of speed racer? i heard it back in like '89. too funny. the one whereby speed and trixie get each other off. i'd like to do that w/ gilligan and ginger, non?

To mix it up: Ableton Live on Mac. It has a bit of a steep learning curve but that is all you really need :)

Thug vs Thug: Porsche 1, Hedge Funds: 0

The latest drama is fun. VW became the largest company in the world, in terms of market cap, ahead of EXXON on a little financial market coup d'etat orchestrated by Porsche. Apparently VW stocks was on the way down, I don't know the details but many Hedge Funds (HF) were short the position. Fine. The price goes down. Porsche starts buying the anonymous float (and probably some private too?), but the point is they build a 73% market share without many people noticing. In the US you would need disclosure after 10% or so. Point is, that many HF wake up and realize that their short position is about to lose a lot of money. So what do they do? those idiots? they short cover all together, which means they buy the stock to cover the short. The stock zooms up, by a full multiplier and overtakes EXXON.
